Tyromer Inc. has won first place at the 10th Annual Mining Cleantech Challenge in Denver, Colorado, with a circular solution for managing large off-the-road mining tyres in partnership with Mine Resources
Tyromer presented a chemical-free devulcanisation technology, which processes scrap tyre rubber and converts it into tyre-derived polymer that can be used again in new rubber products. The technology presented by Tyromer has particular potential for mining applications, including the production of products such as conveyor belts, offering a way to turn a difficult waste stream into a usable secondary raw material.
The award was presented on August 27 at the Governor’s Residence in Denver, following a competitive process in which technology companies presented their solutions to a panel of experts from the mining and natural-resources sectors. The challenge, organised by Colorado Cleantech, focuses on technologies that can make mining safer, cleaner, more efficient and productive.
Jon Visaisouk, CEO of Tyromer, commented: “Tyromer is proud to have won the 2026 Colorado Cleantech Challenge. As the competition judges were from the mining industry, this is strong validation that our solution for recycling (devulcanizing) of mining tyres shows promise. Tyromer’s devulcanized rubber from End-of-Life mining tyres can be used in the manufacturing of new tyres, conveyors, and other rubber products, and the real-use case studies we have shown in the market are wonderful examples of what can happen when a few parties work together. We are just scratching the surface of what is possible. With a little more engagement and buy-in from mining companies and manufacturers, we can create a large-scale, truly Circular Economy in the industry.”
