Murfitts Industries, the UK’s leading tyre recycling company, has been awarded the EcoVadis silver medal for its sustainability performance.
Murfitts Industries ranks in the top 15% of companies evaluated by EcoVadis, a provider of global sustainability ratings. The assessment reviews management systems for environment, labour and human rights, ethics, and sustainable procurement. Murfitts received high marks, particularly for its environmental initiatives supporting sustainability goals.
Jayne Phillips, managing director of Murfitts Industries, said: “Our founding ethos was that end-of-life tyres should be seen as valuable raw material, rather than a waste product to be disposed of in the cheapest or easiest way possible. Over the last 25 years we have built the largest tyre recycling business in the country on that foundation, with sustainability and the environment always at the forefront of our thinking.
“The EcoVadis assessment, placing us in the top 15% of companies, underlines our commitment to that approach and is a testament to the work of our entire team. However, we won’t rest on our laurels. Our research work never stops and we look forward to introducing new developments into tyre recycling to enhance its sustainability even further.”
