Tratamiento Neumáticos Usados (TNU) held a meeting with the Spanish Confederation of Automotive Repair Workshops and Related Businesses (CETRAA) and the Spanish Federation of Automotive Professional Business Associations (CONEPA) to discuss the current issues that the Spanish tyre recycling sector is facing and review the situation of tyre collection services nationwide
CETRAA and CONEPA have received a response from Spain’s General Sub-Directorate of Waste regarding reported issues with end-of-life tyre (ELT) collection at repair workshops. The Ministry for Ecological Transition confirmed that it had reviewed the information provided and forwarded the cases to SIGNUS and TNU, the organisations responsible for overseeing compliance, monitoring and enforcement of Extended Producer Responsibility obligations for ELT management.
During the latest meeting, TNU, CETRAA and CONEPA discussed different aspects of the collection process, including operational procedures and the main concerns raised by workshops regarding the handling of used tyres. The participants agreed to continue working together in future meetings to address sector needs further and improve coordination.
According to TNU, the organisation has “highlighted its commitment to supporting workshops and ensuring the environmentally responsible management of tyres once they reach the end of their useful life, emphasising the importance of maintaining close cooperation with waste managers, transport operators, industry associations and public authorities involved in the ELT management chain.”
Following the meeting, TNU described the exchange as “positive and confirmed that it will continue working with all stakeholders involved to maintain an efficient, transparent and sector-focused collection system.”
