Libya Exports Crumb Rubber

Shiban tyre recycling factory exports tyre recyclates and is held up as a champion of local SME projects.

Libyan Recycling Plant Exports Tyre Crumb

The Shiban Tyre Recycling factory in Libya is forging ahead with production of crumb rubber. The factory has received much praise locally and won the 2020 SME Expo award for best SME project.

The factory uses 100 per cent local labour and local raw materials – which was the reason for it gaining the award. The factory is seen and cited as a local champion and model for other budding local SMEs.

It has also helped Libya’s deal with its major environmental headache of discarded used tyres, which until recently filled landfill sites or were burnt.

It is hoped that Libya can now implement similar projects for the country’s other waste streams – currently dumped in landfills.

A similar tyre recycling plant exists in Benghazi.
