Chihuahua Sees Reduction of Mosquitos from Recycling Efforts

Jürgen Ganser Carbajal, head of the Department of Ecology, explained that in addition to preventing environmental impact in the region, these collections help prevent mosquito breeding sites and thus reduce the transmission of viruses such as Dengue, Zika and Chikungunya, as the water stagnates in the tyres generates the conditions conducive to their multiplying.

Of the 80 thousand tyres gathered from the first of January to date, some 50,000 were collected through the series of campaigns and the installation of the tyre collection centres created by the Municipal Services.

The rest were removed from parks, dykes, streams and other areas, thanks to the cleaning work carried out by the Independent Municipal Government through its various agencies.
