Germany launches an online forum for tyre recycling development

German Government Launches AZuR Platform

The AzuR “Scrap Tire Recycling” innovation forum was recently activated online, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research within the framework of the Innovationsforen Mittelstand” funding guideline.

The aim is to initiate an interdisciplinary network from business and science in the field of innovation. Ultimately, it is important to dismantle the mountain of end-of-life tyres and continue to fully recycle old rubber and tyres in a rapidly changing market.

The project is divided into several phases. In order to document the goals and results transparently and to set up the network as quickly as possible, the programming of a suitable website was the first step in the process. The innovation forum is now available at www.azur-netzwerk.de. “The name AZuR comes from the idea of giving the forum the name “Allianz Future Tyres,” explains Yorick Lowin, Chairman of the Federal Association of Tyre Trade and Vulcanisation Crafts (BRV).

The association is the initiator of the project and would like to bring all stakeholders around tyres one table.

The new site invites visitors to take an information tour. The goals, the different working groups and the previous milestones can readily be found. All partners are also clearly shown, broken down according to their fields of activity.

The area for “Secondary raw material used tyres” is now under construction. In the future, figures, data and facts as well as interesting specialist articles on the topic should be found here. The initial information is already stored and as time goes on, a large knowledge database will build up here.

The network is currently under construction, which is why new companies and research institutions are welcome. All actors who recycle, process, buy up old tyres and rubber or use their components and recyclates in any form can contact AZuR and find out about a partnership. The first workshops are already planned for October, which new members join straight away.

Poll to kick off

With the launch of the website, the AZuR forum also opens a survey on the current state of the industry. For one month, entrepreneurs, research institutions and all those involved with scrap tyres and scrap rubber can provide their input and thus offer a broad range of sentiments. The results will also serve as a basis for discussion at the first planned workshops in October and November. If you want to take part in the survey, you can do so here: https://azur-netzwerk.de/umfrage/
