REDISA – A new Model for Tyre Recycling – Issue 2014-3

The tyre industry has been fighting a long battle at the bottom end of Africa to retain its control over the rubber cycle so that ultimately it could manage the complete recycling of tyres from cradle to grave, and into reincarnation as tyres in the future. There is an argument that this is nothing other than producer responsibility and that the tyre manufacturers should be liable for and in control of their own waste. However, issues in the markets where the tyre manufacturers, essentially the big five, have control, suggest that not all is well.
