The Municipality of Arrecifes in Argentina has sent its first truckload of end-of-life tyres (ELTs), weighing 4,820 kg, to Regomax, a recycling plant located at the CEAMSE site

The municipality’s Environmental Policies Directorate organised the shipment as part of its efforts to improve local waste management and promote recycling.

At the Regomax facility, the tyres are processed to separate and recover their constituent materials, including rubber, steel wire and plastic. The process aims to ensure safe disposal while enabling the recovered materials to be reused.

The municipality also highlighted the public health benefits of removing discarded tyres, which can collect standing water and create potential breeding sites for mosquitoes.

Argentina generates up to 150,000 ELTs annually and municipalities around the country are putting more and more effort into collecting and recycling tyres, with similar projects recently taking place in Posadas and Salta.

Arrecifes said it would continue working towards a cleaner, more sustainable city, with a focus on environmental protection and residents’ health and wellbeing.
