Rubber Roof Tiles by CEVE CINTEMAC

Putting a roof on recycling with tiles made from waste plastics and rubber

CEVE/CINTEMAC: The Project Making Roof Tiles from Waste Tyres

One of this year’s Recircle Awards winners was an Argentinian project to develop roof tiles from waste tyres and polythene. Roof tiles, or singles, are not a completely new concept for tyre recycling, but this Argentinian research blends waste polythene with crumb rubber to produce an environmentally friendly and long-lasting solution to roofing in developing markets.

The Project was initially financed by the Argentinian Solid Waste PIO Project, by the Ministry of Science and Technology of the Province of Córdoba, in 2010, after extensive research and development  in a collaboration between  two Argentinian bodies; CEVE (Experimental Centre for Economic Housing Research and CINTEMAC (Centre for the development and transfer of materials and quality).
