The Madrid municipality of Fuenlabrada continues to use recycled tyres for rubberised asphalt, with its latest resurfacing campaign covering more than 110,000 square metres of public roads.
The Municipality of Fuenlabrada has allocated €1.8 million to the works, which began on 20 August and are being carried out across all six districts of the city, covering 38 interventions across streets, avenues and roundabouts, which translates to around nine kilometres of road.
The asphalt mixes use rubber derived from end-of-life tyres, which is incorporated into bituminous mixes, resulting in improved pavement resistance and elasticity, while also helping reduce road-traffic noise and extend the service life of the roads.
The latest programme builds on previous resurfacing campaigns in Fuenlabrada, such as the one from October 2025, when the municipality carried out resurfacing works covering more than 24,000 square metres, with an investment of over €500,000, covering several streets and roundabouts and also used rubberised asphalt made with crumb rubber from end-of-life tyres.
The latest project forms part of a wider investment in the city’s road infrastructure, with the Municipality of Fuenlabrada stating that its integrated resurfacing programme has reached €2.6 million, excluding separate projects involving comprehensive road improvements and infrastructure reinforcement.
