Gerard Nijman explained how using a feedstock of 500-micron powder the co-rotating twin screw extruder blends the rubber under different screw rates and with the use of an additive devulcanises the rubber. It is claimed that the process breaks the sulphur links and retains long-chain polymers, so better maintaining the characteristics of the original rubber.
