Tyre recycling is increasingly the norm, as this latest news from Kyrgyzstan shows as a new project attracts political approval
The president of Kyrgyzstan, Sadyr Japarov, took time to visit the new tyre recycling plant operated by the Kumtor Gold Company in Tokmak city.
The plant started operations in test mode in August 2023. It recovers tyres of any size, and produces rubber crumb for football pitches and playgrounds that are made from tyres that cannot be retreaded or re-used.
The government press statement says that the full launch of the plant is scheduled for the end of 2024. When it reaches full production capacity, the plant will be able to process up to 2 tons of tyres per hour and recover up to 2,000 large-size and up to 8,000 medium- and light-size tyres per year.
“This will reduce Kumtor Gold Company’s costs for tire replacement by 30-40 per cent. The manufactured products will be sold not only in Kyrgyzstan, but also exported to neighbouring countries. To date, during eight months of test work mode, the plant has processed 900 tons of tyres,” the company statement states.
