SIGNUS Reports on Waste Minimisation Plan
SIGNUS has presented its Annual Global Assessment Report of the 3rd Business Plan for the Minimisation of End-of-Life Tyres 2018-2021, in which all manufacturers and the 233 intra-community importers and purchasers representing 98.9% of the declared tyre arisings declared to SIGNUS in the last four years. They have implemented different measures to prevent the generation of end-of-life tyres.
The Royal Decree 1619/2005, in its article 3, establishes the obligation that producers (manufacturers and importers) have to prepare and send to the EPR schemes a Business Prevention Plan to minimise the generation of waste and its effects on the environment.
The objective of the Waste Minimisation Plan is to identify the mechanisms available to extend the useful life of tyres and facilitate the reuse, recycling, and other forms of recovery of end-of-life tyres, incorporating measures to prevent the generation of waste adopted throughout the different phases of the tyre’s life: design and production, distribution, consumption, and use.
In this follow-up report of the 3rd Business Minimisation Plan, it is shown that the producers working with SIGNUS have introduced a total of 986 measures, of which 41 correspond to eco-design measures carried out by the manufacturers.
Regarding previous plans, the most outstanding advances have been the increase in kilometric performance, between 5% and 20%, depending on the type of tyres; and the reduction of the unit weight of the tyre by up to 6%.
With the results obtained, this evaluation has been shared with the different autonomous administrations involved, as well as with the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and Demographic Challenge (MITERD).
Taking these results into account, SIGNUS, in collaboration with its producers, is working on the preparation of the IV Business Prevention Plan for the period 2022-2025.
