British Columbia Playpark gets Rubberised Coating

The Westsyde Spray Park in Kamloops, British Columbia, is getting an updated play surface made of recycled scrap tyre materials.

The City of Kamloops received a $18,000 grant from the Tire Stewardship BC 2020 Community Grant Program toward the construction of a recycled rubber surface to replace the concrete surface at the spray park to improve safety and accessibility.

“A rubberised spray park surface was chosen to significantly improve the safety and accessibility for all users compared to the existing concrete,” said Jeff Putnam, the city’s parks and civic facilities manager, in a release.

“The material also boasts the environmental benefits of using recycled materials and the reduced need for maintenance.”

The new play surface was installed while the playground and splash park were closed to the public due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
