Brazilian rubber manufacturer, Vipal Borrachas, is legally obliged to recycle tyres that it has put on the market.
Vipal Continues to Recycle Tyres
The retread materials and new tyre manufacturer produces motorcycle tyres at its factory at Feira de Santana, Bahai. It complies with its legal responsibility as required by the Brazilian Institute of Environment and Natural Resources Renewables – IBAMA.
The regulations dictate that any manufacturer or importer of tyres, each weighing more than 2 kilograms, must collect and dispose of tyres equal to the weight of the tyres sold, allowing for a 30 per cent wear factor.
Using reverse logistics, Vipal collects old tyres as it delivers new tyres, at a rate of around 300 tonnes per month. The tyres are treated by outsourcing the recycling to specialist companies where they are reduced to rubber crumb and powders for use in new materials and products.
