Municipality of Posadas, located in the northeast of Argentina, collected 8,523 waste tyres from January 2026 to June 2026, as part of a vector-control programme that targets tyre shops and scrap yards, which can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes that carry diseases such as dengue
Municipality of Posadas transports the collected tyres to the Industrial Park, where they are sorted and sent to a specialised recycling plant, where they are processed to recover steel and rubber. The programme also includes monitoring tyre shops and scrap yards on a monthly basis, while collection and mosquito control operations continue throughout the year.
On average, the municipality collected 330 waste tyres weekly in the past six months, covering 120 tyre shops in 12 municipalities. Every week, the municipality publishes a collection schedule on its website, covering various areas in Posada.
According to El Territorio, officials have highlighted the importance of the programme considering the combination of rainfall and high temperatures, which can create favourable conditions for mosquito proliferation.
