Market Pressures Push up Carbon Black Prices

Birla Carbon to Increase North American Prices

Birla Carbon has announced a 15% price increase for all Carbon Black products manufactured in North America, effective from July 1, 2022. All shipments made on or after this date will be subject to the price increase.

The market for Carbon Black has been relatively stable due to a sluggish automotive market around the world. However, increasing costs in materials, freight, logistics, and operations are the key reasons for this necessary change according to Birla Carbon.

Whilst there are variances in prices across the global market, there is some evidence that the war in Ukraine has had an impact upon the supply chain, with Enviro suggesting that the shortage of supply of Carbon Black from Russia due to sanctions, has led to an increase in demand for its recovered Carbon Black. Pyrum Innovations has also suggested that it has seen an increase in interest as the market moves to fill the gap created by the lack of Russian sourced materials.
