East Sussex Tyre Recycling Facility Proposed

Plans have been submitted for a tyre recycling facility at quires Farm Industrial Estate at Palehouse Common

Plans have been submitted for a tyre recycling facility on the Squires Farm Industrial Estate at Palehouse Common, East Sussex, UK.

Pyrite Industries Propose Tyre Recycling Facility for East Sussex

Tyres would be shredded, coloured and baled, with tyre shred/crumb, and bales, going on to be used in construction projects. Ferrous metal, from tyre wire, produced from the shredding process would be sent to another facility for further recovery.

The planning application, made by Pyrite Industries, says the site’s industrial setting and ‘appropriate’ transport links would mean the proposed development would require very little change to the site’s infrastructure.

The facility could create up to seven jobs, including drivers, administrative staff, plant operatives and site managers.

The proposal says, “The applicant is proposing to manufacture the processed ELTs into a commodity which can be re-used in industrial and agricultural sectors.

“Given the emphasis in national policies for the minimisation, re-use and recycling of waste it can be concluded that there is a clear and defined need for facilities such as the existing to diversify and expand in order that national recycling targets can be met, whilst also assisting in compliance with legislation at a national and European level.”

Capacity at the plant is anticipated to be around 40 tons per day based on 10 x 400 tyre deliveries per day.

The directors of Pyrite Industries have a history in both the logistics and tyre recycling sector.
