Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey has signed a Bill which officially defines waste tyres to prevent their being sold as used tyres.
Context of Bill Explained
The Arizona Bill defines a waste tyre as:
- Any tyre with visible damage such as cracking, bubbling, cutting, chunking or separation of the tyre sidewall or tread;
- Any tyre with exposed body plies or belt material, or any visible deterioration of the tyre bead or inner liner;
- Any tyre with a puncture repair of more than 1/4 inch, or a puncture repair on a tyre sidewall, shoulder or belt edge area; or
- Any tyre with a puncture repair that is not both sealed and patched on the inside and repaired with a cured rubber stem through to the outside.
Whilst the Bill defines a waste tyre, it does not propose penalties for used tyre sellers who mount unsafe tyres on vehicles, according to Daniel Zielinski, RMA senior vice president for public affairs.
