Genan Buys Biosafe | Tyre and Rubber Recycling

Genan has bought its Portuguese competitor Biosafe, which, like Genan, recovers worn-out tyres. The price is unclear, but Biosafe has an annual capacity of 25,000 tyres against Genan‘s 375,000 tyre capacity.

Genan adds Portuguese Biosafe to its Growing Operation

With the acquisition, Genan now operates six recycling plants worldwide.

“With a production unit in Southern Europe, we will increase our total production capacity, and we will also increase our competitiveness both locally and in various export markets, as freight costs for many customers are a crucial parameter,” says Poul Steen Rasmussen, director of Genan.

Biosafe was a company of the Nors group, which emerged in 1997 due to the need, identified by Nors, to promote the recycling of end-of-life tyres in Portugal. It was a pioneer in Portugal in the production of high-quality recycled rubber granules. At its facilities, Biosafe processes car and truck tyres to achieve complete separation between rubber, steel and textile fibres, processing around 25,000 tons of tyres per annum.
